Will “Gevaudan 1851” become the best student video game in France, and in the world?

The return of the beast is all the rage. The video game “Gévaudan 1851”, made by students from the Pôle 3D school, in Roubaix, in the North, seems on the way to becoming a reference in the world of PC platform games. The school, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, has just learned that this game is a finalist Pegasus, the equivalent of the Césars in the cinema. The awards ceremony will be held on March 9 in Paris.

This good news follows a selection, last week, among the six best independent productions in the world presented, at the end of March, at the IGF (Independent Game Festival) in San Francisco, in the United States. A sort of Oscar ceremony for video games.

Around the legend of the Beast of Gévaudan

“We have to wait for the rewards, but this double selection shows that the level of our training is of high quality”, underlines Olivier Carlot, director of the video game sector at Pôle 3D.

“Gevaudan 1851” is a game designed by nine students around the legend of the beast of Gevaudan. “It is an investigation in a semi-open world with an impressionist design in real time, which represents a real technical feat”, underlines the Roubais school, in a press release.

The plot takes place in 1851, after Napoleon III’s coup d’etat. The countryside is on fire and entire villages are emptied of their inhabitants. The player must investigate these mysterious disappearances attributed to the return of the beast of Gévaudan, which had raged, a century earlier, between Lozère and Haute-Loire. Brrr!!!
