Bavaria’s wild boars don’t have it easy. 37 years have passed since the Chernobyl reactor disaster. After the accident, the wind blew large amounts of radioactivity to the west, and many forest animals were also exposed to radiation. But while the levels of deer, foxes and others have fallen again since then, many wild boars in the particularly affected regions in southern and eastern Bavaria are still so radioactively contaminated that it is as if hardly any time had passed since the accident in April 1986.
