A wild boar is in Mainz, his excessive curiosity became fatal. Due to the considerable risk posed by the animal, a hunter finally shot it at the Theodor-Heuss-Bridge early Thursday morning, the police said.

Killing the wild boar was “the only way” to eliminate the significant danger the animal posed to people and road traffic. It was shot in consultation with the lower hunting authority and the animal emergency service, as the statement shows.

Road closures were intended to prevent accidents involving wild boars

The wild boar was spotted at, among other places, the Electoral Palace, the state parliament and a luxury hotel. The officials tried to prevent accidents with the animal in the Rhineland-Palatinate state capital by blocking roads.

The police had already pointed out on Wednesday evening that the pig had been repeatedly spotted in the area of ​​the Theodor Heuss Bridge “for quite some time.” The police ultimately tracked it down with the help of a thermal imaging drone.
