Why Van Gogh’s Grandsons Aren’t Billionaires: “Brilliantly” Solved – Culture

Vincent van Gogh died on July 29, 1890 at the age of 37. A day and a half earlier, the painter, who was suffering from fears and delusions, had shot himself in the chest. His brother Theo sat at his deathbed in Auvers-sur-Oise. Without this man, whom he loved more than anything, who was a friend, adviser, admirer, comforter and, above all, a patron, he could not have achieved what he did. Theo’s support, Vincent once wrote to him, is “a hedge, a fence between the hostile world and me”.
