On days marked by gloomy news from Bakhmut and the images of a cruelly executed Ukrainian soldier, it is difficult to imagine a peaceful future. On the other hand, it will be impossible to ignore the memories of the crimes and trauma of those days when negotiating an end to the war. The Russian invaders leave behind the legacy of their crimes. For decades, maybe even longer, it will create deep distrust. For this reason, it is essential to make clear now the prerequisites for a lasting silence of the guns. Ukraine desperately needs what it has been denied so far: reliable security guarantees.
