Normally, the Federal Nature Conservation Association tries to protect open areas from being sealed. Nevertheless, he sold a field in Munich to a real estate company – an unusual deal.
Peter Rottner has been involved in real estate transactions for the Association for Nature Conservation in Bavaria (BUND) for a good 20 years. Sometimes it’s about purchasing land, for example to protect moors and biotopes. The association spends around two million euros on this per year, says Rottner, who works as the state manager of BUND in Bavaria. Sometimes it is also about sales, for example of areas that were bequeathed to the club. But he has never come across a case like the one on Marienburger Strasse in the northeast of Munich; Rottner calls it “completely atypical.”
