Why does Carole Delga bring together nearly 2,000 mayors for two days?

“Take the collective time of exchange and encounter”. For two days, this Tuesday in Montpellier and forty-eight hours later in Toulouse, Carole Delga (PS), president of the Occitanie region, invited 4,500 mayors and administrative officials from the region. They were 800 this Tuesday in Montpellier to have answered the invitation, they will be a thousand in two days.

The opportunity, explains the region, to discuss with the main concerned their priorities for action, their daily concerns and administrative blockages. And to present to local elected officials all the aid offered by the community “to support and finance useful projects for the daily life of the inhabitants”.

“The most rewarding and difficult mandate”

“The region is the first partner of local authorities. We are continuing this close partnership, explains Carole Delga. Whether it is to fight against medical deserts, to maintain local shops, to open up territories thanks to transport accessible to all, or to deal with climate change”.

This Tuesday, the municipal councilors of the former Languedoc-Roussillon were invited to Montpellier. Wednesday, in Toulouse, it will be the turn of the elected officials of the former Midi-Pyrenees. “The municipal mandate is undoubtedly the most rewarding, but also the most difficult. Nearly 1,300 have already resigned since the 2020 elections. This figure should alert us. This meeting is first and foremost a message of trust and solidarity. »
