Why 80% of teachers assigned to secondary presented their letter of resignation to the IUT?

Forty teachers from the IUT of Montpellier submitted a letter of resignation from non-statutory administrative tasks on Thursday. It was addressed to the president of the University of Montpellier, to the president of the council of IUT and to the director of the IUT. These teachers have decided to mobilize in response to the promulgation of the Research programming law.

“For equal work, the bonuses awarded to higher education teachers are no longer equal to those of teacher-researchers”, explains the collective 384. “This collective action aims to alert university authorities to the degraded conditions of the September start of the school year for students, warns Bertrand Gélis, head of the electrical engineering and industrial IT department at the IUT of Montpellier. It is the consequence of an injustice of treatment between teacher-researchers and secondary school teachers assigned to higher education. »

“Same mission, unequal pay”

Thirteen thousand in France, higher education teachers “are not affected by the revaluation decided by the Ministry of National Education in April 2023, denounces the 384 collective. In 2024, they will lose easier access to the exceptional class with removal of fishponds. They will see their career slowed down at university. They will be paid in devalued additional hours when they should benefit from increased overtime like preparatory or BTS teachers. »

The Montpellier IUT has 200 teachers and teacher-researchers. Fifty of them are secondary school teachers assigned to higher education. Among them, they are 80% to have presented their letter of resignation from administrative tasks, this Thursday. Bertrand Gélis mentions many consequences for students at the start of the school year, ranging from the non-development of schedules and therefore the reception of students to the suspension of apprenticeship courses, or the cessation of certain teaching modules.

“A bonus must be linked to the mission and not to the status, considers Gilles Frontin, deputy director of the IUT of the prefecture of Hérault, which supports the movement. If at a given time, two colleagues are doing the same job, it still seems surprising that they don’t have the same bonus”.
