Paul Mescal is considered the hottest Bond candidate among his colleagues – but apparently two versions of 007 are now needed.

Who will be next? James Bond? The question concerns not only fans of the franchise, but also Hollywood itself. And “Fleabag” priest and “Sherlock” villain Andrew Scott (47) would have an idea: his co-star Paul Mescal (27).

Mescal and Scott can currently be seen side by side in the drama “All of Us Strangers” by Andrew Haigh (50). “He would probably be a great James Bond,” Scott said at a screening their joint film according to “Variety”. And then joked: “But I want to see him in ‘Gladiator’ first.”

Paul Mescal: First comes “Gladiator”

Scott won’t have to wait much longer for this: Mescal, who celebrated his breakthrough with the series “Normal People” in 2020 and was recently nominated for an Oscar for his role in the drama “Aftersun”, is currently in front of the camera for “Gladiator” in Malta . “It’s going to be incredible,” enthuses Scott, who has apparently already gotten a glimpse of the film. “It’s so exciting. I’ve seen some pictures that will wow the world.”

But back to Bond: The successor to Daniel Craig (55) as 007 has been keeping the film world busy since the actor announced in 2019 that he would no longer take on the role. There is no official information about the new cast yet – the producers have already ruled out the possibility that it could be a woman.

Media reports: Two new James Bonds?

The latest rumors say that two men could even be happy about the role in the next Bond: According to “Mirror”, a younger and an older Bond will be cast in the new film. Accordingly, Bond will appear on the screen in a young and an old version in the same film. The “Mirror” insiders are also counting on Mescal and write that he is in discussion for the younger role.

Actress Ana de Armas (35), who starred in the last Craig Bond film, has already spoken out in favor of Mescal. The supposedly chosen one was still reserved in an interview with “The Sun” in 2020: “Would I play Bond? I don’t know. If I’m ever offered it, we’ll talk about it.”

Lots of fan favorites for the new Bond

Mescal is also considered a big fan favorite for the next Bond, but is in line with stars like Tom Holland (27), Idris Elba (51) and Henry Cavill (40). According to the producers, another name has been at the center of rumors for some time: Aaron Taylor-Johnson (33). The Brit is said to have had a secret casting with producer Barbara Broccoli (63) at the end of 2022 and was her first choice, The Daily Mail reported in January.
