Five days after the presidential election, Bassirou Diomaye Faye is the new president of Senegal. He was elected with 54% of the votes in the first round, according to provisional figures which must still be validated by the Constitutional Council. According to his party, Pastef, he will be invested on April 2, the end of Macky Sall’s mandate, then he will form his first government for April 5, the day after the national holiday.

The main thing, we say within Pastef, is to quickly get to work to work on the priorities of the new president-elect, namely the economy, the cost of living and food sovereignty. For this, the government will be largely composed of technocrats and not necessarily leading political figures. There could be figures “ neutral ”, without political commitment, as well as people from the diaspora.
The new president could also surround himself with members of the President Diomaye coalition, which includes around a hundred small parties and movements. The most important thing, we insist at Pastef, is the rupture and the “ project ” worn by Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Ousmane Sonko.
As for the place, precisely, of Ousmane Sonko, the future president affirmed in the columns of World that he didn’t promise her anything. All options are therefore open for a government role, as a close advisor or even as president of the National Assembly.
Finally, could the major traditional parties play a role in this new government? The PDS, which supported Bassirou Diomaye Faye a few days before the election, is in any case open to discussion and according to Maguette Sy, “ we don’t close any partitions “. But he specifies that if discussions take place, it will be with the party leaders, Abdoulaye Wade and Karim Wade.
