Who triggered the fish kill on the Oder: a search for clues

A German-Polish Greenpeace team spent three days searching for traces of fish deaths along the Oder. star-Reporter Helmut Broeg accompanied them.

Julios Kontchou carefully slips on the white protective suit, slips on a pair of blue laboratory gloves and pulls the tree-frog-green jacket with the distinctive Greenpeace lettering over his T-shirt. “The whole body has to be covered for safety reasons, after all we don’t know what’s in the water here,” says the ecotoxicologist. Using a large trowel on a five-meter-long telescopic pole, he scoops water from a side canal of the Oder near Olawa from the bank.
