“About time,” growls a judge in the aisle, “that was sloppily determined.” The verdict in the so-called bathtub case made the rounds in the aisles of the Munich I Regional Court, and the media celebrated the woman who found clear and appropriate words in her verdict: Elisabeth Ehrl, presiding judge of the 1st jury chamber. She acquitted Manfred Genditzki, the man who was serving 13 years and six months in prison for a murder Ehrl said he did not commit; that didn’t even exist. She said: “We are truly sorry that many years of your life have been taken away from you in freedom.”
