  • A teacher of Alsatian origin, Lucas Schildknecht, 35, is behind the learning website “Master Lucas”.
  • This site is aimed at students from CP to CM2 and offers them lessons, mainly in the form of videos, but not only.
  • “We want to continue to develop and for example to create small interactive video games to learn. It could for example be a car race where, to move forward, you have to do calculations, ”explains the school teacher and his cousin, who helped him create the site.

Need a little lesson on symmetry, oviparous and viviparous or just a dictation? All this is possible on the website of “Master Lucas”, from videos, quizzes, cards or even mental maps, sort of graphics that help to memorize better. In short, everything you need to occupy students from CP to CM2.

It is precisely for them that Lucas Schildknecht, a 35-year-old school teacher from Sélestat, Alsace, has started. “It was when I was teaching in New York that the idea came up,” he recalls. There, the concept of inverted class is very developed. The idea is that the children arrive in class with already notions about the course to come. It allows you to have a much more active lesson. “

Already very interested in new technologies, the teacher then embarked on the creation of short educational videos (3 to 8 minutes) on different program themes. Rather worked pastilles, in the form of animations. With three characters that he all doubles: “the child, the grandfather and the Master”. “It was mostly for my own students at the start. I put maybe two videos a month on YouTube, he says. Then it took a lot… ”

The first confinement boosted its audiences. Before a specialist gets involved: his cousin, Benoît. “We discussed it last summer and I told him that he could do even better in terms of SEO on the Internet,” recalls the person, director of e-commerce in a large French company. Together, they launched the masterelucas.fr website in October “and it has been a hit ever since! “

Everything is free

In March, 25,000 different visitors were registered. “Just last week, before the holidays, we virtually” welcomed “more than 87,000 teachers and students, who watched 170,000 videos or exercises,” appreciates the duo, which offers nothing paying. Even on YouTube, no video is attached to an advertisement. Both therefore act voluntarily, even if it means sacrificing their free time.

“There are hours and hours between writing, recording, editing, etc. But confinement has helped us a lot, ”laughs Lucas Schildknecht, who has accelerated his production rate. Now, 4 to 5 videos are released per week, not counting other media. “In total, I published about 180 for all the levels and just for the CP, it would take about 200. There is still work,” he laughs.

The cousins do not lack motivation or projects. “We want to continue to develop and for example to create small interactive video games to learn. It could be for example a car race where, to move forward, you have to do calculations, ”they detail, referring to a blog section reserved for parents. There again, without the pretension of replacing, in the long term, the teaching at school.

“They are aids for the students. The lessons must be reviewed several times and worked on in class, ”explains Maître Lucas, who now trains teachers in Luxembourg. “The idea is to give teachers or parents tools that they can rely on and that are appreciated by children. “
