White sneakers: a farewell to the millennial hallmark

White sneakers were a fashion statement, in Germany they even made political history. But unfortunately they have degenerated into an expression of uniformity, naivety and stylistic impoverishment. Time to throw them on the garbage heap of fashion history.

Jo Schick was about five years old, Joko Winterscheidt six, Oliver Pocher seven, Tommi Schmitt and Louis Klamroth not even born when the white sneaker celebrated its big appearance in Germany. The then 38-year-old Joschka Fischer appeared before the Prime Minister of the Hessian state parliament in December 1985 and was the first Green Minister in his state to be sworn in. In addition, as the first dignitary to wear bright white sneakers, which everyone in the establishment at the time found unheard of. What a signal that was, a disrespect and a provocation, the ideal sign of a generation change that was finally emerging.
