You don’t get to hear very much new from Frances Haugen, the whistleblower who shook the Facebook empire. But its power also lies in repetition. This Monday, she sued the group in Brussels, in an interview with representatives of the EU Commission and before the European Parliament’s Internal Market Committee, which is currently working on a law to regulate the digital world. Her accusation: Facebook causes hate speech, social division, violence, psychological damage in children and adolescents – and is not doing anything about it in order not to jeopardize its profit. The European Union, said Haugen, is now well on the way to setting a “gold standard for the whole world” in dealing with the tech giants. With a smile she added: “Also for my country, the USA.”
