In Neuperlach and in the neighboring trade fair town of Riem, juvenile delinquency is increasing – and it is becoming more and more brutal: attempts to free prisoners, targeted shelling by emergency services on New Year’s Eve, explosives detonation in front of a police station, high-rise buildings that are protected by their own security service, most recently a machete attack to two teenagers. Nevertheless, Andreas Franken finds comparisons with the current situation in France completely inappropriate.
And the police spokesman doesn’t like to talk about youth gangs either, although they also exist in Munich. But the fact that Riem and Neuperlach are not problem areas, but that there are problems with violent young people, is now also acknowledged by the Munich police. It is not uncommon for them to become the target of attacks themselves. Now she wants to take countermeasures with a three-week mission in the south-east of Munich – not for the first time, as was learned on Thursday.
Already during the Easter holidays there was such a deployment of the local inspections and the presidency. At that time, it was still largely unnoticed by the general public. “Because this had an effect by reducing crime among young people,” according to the police, the concept is now to be implemented again from next Tuesday. This time in the limelight, so to speak.
Units of the riot police will be there, the service dogs and the cavalry squadron, many young civil servants who are expected to have a “differentiated and transparent” appearance. And the experts from the Commissariat for Prevention and Victim Protection will also be present – for four days in front of the two shopping centers Riem-Arcaden and Pep.
There are no real gangs with “hard, fixed structures” in the two parts of the city, says police spokesman Franken. However, the police describe “multiple and intensive offenders, including children in individual cases”, they speak of “group dynamic processes”. And Franken admits: “The intensity makes us sit up and take notice.” According to the police, the crimes of robbery often involve “typical youth” loot: headphones, mobile phones, expensive jackets – that’s what the attackers are aiming for. Particularly striking: “The crimes are also filmed and the perpetrators stage themselves on social media.”
