Alpha, Delta, Omicron and now BA.5: The corona virus is moving around the world in ever new guise. Only the vaccines designed to fight it are still the old ones. Developed at the beginning of the pandemic, they are aimed at the virus that started it all more than two years ago. But the virus has changed, some of its latest varieties slip through the immune system that was built up with the help of the vaccines. That is why the vast majority of vaccine manufacturers are already working on tailoring their vaccines specifically to Omikron. Actually, the first adapted vaccines should have been available long ago. The company Biontech, along with Moderna again at the forefront, had even announced their vaccine update for March. But there is still none there.
