2021 was “the worst and hardest” year of his life, says Jamie Dornan. His father contracted Covid-19 and died while the actor was in quarantine in Australia.
Actor Jamie Dornan has spoken to British newspaper The Sun about the death of his father Jim. The world-renowned gynecologist and medical professor died in March 2021 at the age of 73. Jim Dornan wanted to have knee surgery in a hospital in his hometown of Belfast and contracted Covid-19 there. The tragedy: When he died, his son was in quarantine on the other side of the world and could not fly to Northern Ireland.
“It’s been a brutal time for many reasons and for many people. We’re all trying to get through it unscathed,” Dornan told The Sun. The actor traveled to Australia for the BBC series “The Tourist” in March last year. Before filming could begin, he had to isolate himself in a hotel room for two weeks. When his father died, he was not allowed to leave the country.
Australia introduced strict entry and exit regulations during the corona pandemic. For months, not even nationals were allowed to enter, the borders remained closed, families separated. After his experience, he can now empathize with what many people have gone through, said Jamie Dornan, describing 2021 as “the worst and toughest” of his life.
Jamie Dornan lost his mother when he was 16
As a teenager he already had to cope with the death of his mother. She died when he was 16 from pancreatic cancer. In addition, his father fell ill with leukemia in 2005, but was able to defeat the disease. The actor has two older sisters. “I experienced a lot of pain and loss early in my life,” the 39-year-old told The Sun.
Jamie Dornan is best known for his role in the Fifty Shades of Gray film series. The actor has been married to his wife Amelia Warner since 2013 and the couple have three daughters together. All four accompanied Dornan to Australia for filming last year and helped him cope with the loss of his father.
