What weather is expected for this Easter weekend?

A “rainy-unstable” weekend and a “parade of disruptions”, we are told Meteo France in his last newsletter. Until Monday evening, between showers, rain and sleet, the sun is likely to be rare. Let’s see the glass half full: your chocolates, well hidden in the garden or on your balconies, will not risk melting! The rainy periods will continue throughout the country, indicates Météo-France, announcing a new episode in the Cévennes in the south-east. As for The Weather Channelshe describes the weekend weather as “gloomy”, “variable” or “spring-like” (only for the far South-East, we warn you).

Rain, even snow

Saturday morning, the weather will be rainy from the Benelux to the Massif Central and to the south-east with stormy precipitation towards the Cévennes. In the afternoon, this “rainy-unstable” weather, with sometimes stormy showers, will shift towards the eastern side of the country. It will even snow in the Alps above 1,900 m.

From the Pyrenees to the northwest, the day will begin under variable skies “with a few showers interspersed with nice clearings,” Météo-France further specifies. Corsica is also affected by a few showers before the evening. In the south-east and center-east, the south wind will blow “still quite strong with a few gusts of 70 to 90 km/h, or even 100 km/h in the morning on the heights”. In terms of temperatures, the minimums will range from 3 to 10 degrees in general, up to 11 to 14 degrees in the South-East and Corsica. In the afternoon, it will be 11 to 16 degrees in most regions, locally 17 to 20 degrees on the eastern side of the country and in the south, up to 21 to 22 degrees in Corsica.

Sunday, it’s raining (everywhere)

As we move into summer time, rainy episodes will become more widespread, coming from the south-east. “From the middle of the day or the beginning of the afternoon, the whole of France should be affected by showers”, clearly summarize our colleagues from Parisian. THE southeast wind will blow in violent gusts on the Mediterranean coast. Snow will again fall in abundance in the southern Alps above 1,400 m.

Except in Corsica, temperatures will be roughly seasonal in the north, and several degrees lower in the south. This is where the sixth Mediterranean episode in a month and a half should occur. A significant accumulation of rain is expected over a short period (i.e. one day). According to AFP, it could rain up to 200 mm cumulatively by Monday morning in the Cévennes or in Provence.

Monday, the far south spared from the rain

Monday, the weather won’t be great either. Alsace, Pyrenees, Roussillon and Languedoc should see sunshine while the rest of France will experience showers. Temperatures should not exceed around fifteen degrees throughout the country. And “the most likely scenario corresponds to wetter conditions than normal in the north of the country”, continues Météo-France.

“Rain gear can be very useful for the egg hunt which will take place in humid conditions,” notes La Chaîne Météo. In short, a time from All Saints’ Day to Easter. There are more seasons!
