A gendarme who was riding a motorcycle died on the national 13 Friday afternoon in Calvados. According to the Ministry of the Interior, the soldier was trying to catch up with an offending vehicle when he was involved in an accident. An investigation was opened to shed light.
What happened on Friday?
It was around 3:45 p.m. when a gendarmerie motorcyclist entered the national 13 linking Caen (Calvados) to Cherbourg (Manche) to chase a vehicle. According to West France, the motorcyclist was engaged in a speed control operation in this sector of Saint-Loup-Hors, very close to Bayeux. In a press release, the Ministry of the Interior said that the gendarme was trying to “intercept an infringing vehicle” when the accident occurred.
The motorcyclist apparently collided from behind with the vehicle in front of him, before “violently hitting the guardrail”, specifies the ministry. The gendarme died on the spot “despite the rapid intervention of his comrade and emergency services”. According to West France, the vehicle hit by the motorcyclist was not the one he was pursuing. Shocked, the driver of the vehicle was taken care of by emergency services.
A judicial investigation has been opened to try to determine the circumstances of the accident and understand what happened. It was entrusted to the Bayeux research brigade, jointly seized with the Caen research section.
Who was the deceased motorcyclist?
Chief Quartermaster Belaïd Allek was 51 years old, he was married and the father of one child. Engaged since 1996 as a non-commissioned officer in the gendarmerie, he served in the Saint-Loup-Hors motorized platoon since 2020. According to The Policeman’s VoiceBelaïd Allek was notably a National Defense medalist, gold level.

The announcement of the death on duty of the 51-year-old gendarme provoked numerous reactions. Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin “saluted the memory” of the soldier. “This tragedy which has put the national gendarmerie into mourning demonstrates, once again, the total commitment of the internal security forces to the service of the French. They deserve the respect and recognition of the nation,” said the minister. ” We bring all our support to his familyhis loved ones and his comrades from the PMO as well as the departmental road safety squadron, to whom we send our sincere condolences,” added the Calvados gendarmerie.
