Not every shape of glasses suits every face. We have an overview of the most common shapes and explain who can wear them.

Round, square or oval: there are different shapes of glasses for different face shapes. We introduce them and explain who can wear them best.

There are basically six different types of glasses: round, panto, oval, pilot, square and butterfly. The shape of the frame should ideally contrast with the shape of the face. Means: Round shapes go well with angular facial features, angular shapes are good for round faces. There are also unusual eyewear shapes such as Wayfarer, Oversized or Clubmaster – for the brave.

Cat Eye or Butterfly

Since the 1950s, this type of glasses has been considered particularly feminine and elegant. Typical for them cat eye or butterfly glasses are their distinctive outer tips on the upper edge of the glasses. If the shape is particularly pronounced, it quickly becomes a bit strict. It suits wearers with an oval or square face shape.

Nickel-plated glasses or also: John Lennon glasses

Nickel-plated glasses, also known as John Lennon glasses, usually have a filigree frame around the round lenses. This was formerly made of nickel. Today it mostly consists of more stable and skin-friendly materials. In the 1970s, this type of glasses was not only popular with artists like John Lennon. At the time, it had a reputation for giving the wearer a particularly intellectual look. Today, this form of glasses is one of the most popular, especially as sunglasses. the round glasses shape looks particularly good on angular faces.

Oval glasses

Oval frames have soft, curved lines. The rounded edges flatter the face and suit heart and square face shapes.

Panto glasses shape

The more unusual forms

the Wayfairer shape is a quite striking shape of glasses. They are also known as nerd glasses. The original comes from the Ray-Ban brand. A wide frame and soft corners make the model stand out.

Oversized glasses shapes that oversized glasses, are often worn as sunglasses and are of course a real eye-catcher. Here Gigi Hadid wears the “Mono” shape, i.e. lenses that merge into one another.

The shape of the glasses club master is a retro model. The classic is round and rimless at the bottom and has a straight frame at the top.
