The Top Down storage method: kesaco?
The Top Down method is literally the “top to bottom” method. So it’s a matter of starting to tidy and clean from the top and work your way down. But what could be the point of starting to clean from the top specifically? Well, it’s all about optimizing your time and avoiding unnecessary effort!
For example, if you have carefully dusted all the bottom shelves and then finish with the top ones, it is likely that dust will fall again onto surfaces that you have just cleaned. Frustrating, right?
The Top Down method allows you to establish a rational order to carry out the different stages of cleaning and make the house shine in record time.
The Top Down method: instructions for use
To take full advantage of the Top Down method, it is essential that the house is well organized and tidy beforehand.
So we start with a little sorting, in order to declutter our shelves as much as possible. The trick is to go by categories, rather than pieces.
For example, even if you have books in the bedroom and living room, sort them all at once. Storage pros also recommend grouping all similar items together in the same place. Ideally, for example, all beauty products should be grouped together, rather than divided between the bedroom and the bathroom – which is often the case.
We take advantage of the “sorting” operation to reorganize things by grouping them in baskets, boxes and storage crates. This makes it easier to access what you need when you need it. And what’s more, it’s much prettier… and it’s much more practical when you want to clean a shelf or the bottom of a drawer!
Grouping things by category and using storage boxes has another advantage: it’s easy to realize that the cupboards are overflowing – which encourages you to sort more regularly!
Once the house is well organized, it becomes easy to apply the Top Down method on a daily basis. The principle is very simple, as we have seen, since we proceed from top to bottom. So we start with the ceiling by removing the cobwebs and dusting the light fixtures. We then take care of the walls, then the furniture and shelves, without forgetting the table, the desk and the seats: chairs, armchair and sofa. And we finish with the floor: carpet, then vacuuming and/or washing.
The Top Down method also applies to very specific spaces, such as the inside of cupboards, dressing rooms, or refrigerators.
If the Top Down method requires taking the time to sort and reorganize the house, it subsequently saves time on a daily basis and ensures you enjoy a completely clean interior, which is what makes it so successful.
