Why choose a wardrobe?

To store your clothes, the wardrobe, also called dressing room, has considerable advantages.

  • It is easy to install.
  • It offers many possibilities in terms of development. For example, it can be open or closed. In this way, the wardrobe can be decorative and available in different styles. It can be wood, metal or colored.
  • It saves space, whatever the configuration of the room.

The dimensions of the wardrobe

To take full advantage of it, this storage space must comply with certain rules.

The height of the wardrobe

Depending on the clothes you want to hang on it, the wardrobe rod can be installed at different heights.

  • For coats, dresses, you can opt for a rod 1.60 m from the ground.
  • If you want to hang jackets or shirts, you will need to keep a space of 1.10 m between the floor and the rod.
  • To hang pants, you will need a height of 0.60 m.

It is possible to install rods at heights suitable for different types of clothing. You can thus use the empty spaces to install drawers or shelves in order to optimize the storage spaces in your dressing room.

The length of the wardrobe

To determine the length of your closet you can rely on two criteria. Indeed, the size of your wardrobe will, of course, depend on the space you have, but also on the clothes you want to store in it. It is therefore recommended to make a rough estimate of the number of clothes you have and their different types to know the space you need. This will allow you to optimize space and avoid empty spaces.

You should therefore know that:

  • you can put 5 hangers in 15cm, but the clothes will be tight;
  • to place 5 hangers while avoiding that they are not tight, it is necessary to count 20 cm.

The depth of the closet

Another important dimension to consider is the depth of the closet. Indeed, it must be sufficient to accommodate the hangers. It is therefore advisable to maintain a depth of at least 55 cm. Generally, that of a standard cabinet is 60 cm, which allows you to hang all kinds of hangers without difficulty.

How to organize your wardrobe?

We have seen the height of the wardrobe rods to respect depending on the type of clothing. However, these heights can also be determined based on practicality. For example, you may prefer to place the wardrobe bar at a height of about 1.70 m, which corresponds to the axis of vision. Wider, between 1 m and 2 m, you stay in the zone of vision.

In this area, you will therefore be able to choose the height that is optimal for you according to your needs and your size. Below 1 m, it is better to install drawers to facilitate access to their contents. This way you don’t waste space. So you can install a first rod at 1.70m high for hanging dresses and coats, if you also use it for jackets, these only need a height of 1.10m, you can install under drawers for storage of underwear, for example. Then you can install a second rod 1.10 m from the ground for shirts, blouses, skirts, etc., this allows you to free up a space above in which to store piles of clothes. And you can continue like this with as many rods as you want, which allows you to have wardrobes of different heights for all the clothes.
