Hesse and the Greens – this has often been a forward-looking connection in the history of the party. The Greens were not only founded as a club here in 1979. In the person of Joschka Fischer, the first Green minister took office in the state capital Wiesbaden in 1985. The once rebellious Hessian Greens ultimately became a role model for other state governments of the same color in the first black-green coalition in a regional state. Its leading politician Tarek Al-Wazir helped shape the course of a green party nationwide, which also had an airport expanded in the face of protests from the environmental camp.
