What exactly is “unbureaucratic help”? – Culture

How exactly do you imagine that when the victims of disasters are promised unbureaucratic help? Does the interior minister fly over the affected areas in a helicopter and pour the payments over the country from sacks of non-numbered banknotes? Or, if it should be possible by transfer, then you ask yourself: Does “unbureaucratic” mean just as unbureaucratic as the payment of the Corona aid by the Ministry of Economic Affairs? Or how the organization of the vaccination registration in the different federal states?

Certainly, one sincerely wishes speedy relief to all whose homes and livelihoods have been destroyed, and politicians naturally want to express this sincere wish when they make this promise. And many will now do all they can. But why does the necessary action of the administration always have to be presented as a deviation from its purpose of existence when this action is particularly important and urgent? “Unbureaucratic” is actually a slap in the face of all state bureaucracy where it functions. For those in power who rule over them, the bureaucracy is the false enemy image. In times of digitization, as was evident in the Corona crisis, we would prefer a different kind of help: bureaucratic and fast.
