What are these new decreasing train fares for seniors?

After free admission for young people (18-26 years old), preferential rates for seniors aged 60 and over. The Occitanie region and the SNCF offer a reduction system based on the use of the rail network: “the more you travel, the less you pay”, summarizes Carole Delga, president (PS) of the Region. The prices of tickets on the TER liO network are decreasing according to the journeys made (up to -50% on the 5th journey made in the month). Free journeys are added from the 20th journey in the year.

The region “supports the entire discount that we donate to the SNCF. It is a strong political choice”, underlines Jean-Luc Gibelin, vice-president (PCF) of the Occitanie region, in charge of mobility for all and transport infrastructure.

“Our trains are the cheapest in France”

Occitania has made train development one of its priorities. By financing in particular lines doomed to disappear, for lack of profitability, and by encouraging users to turn away from other means of transport thanks to free admission for 18-26 year olds, which 35,000 young people benefit from, or the train at 1 €. “Since 2016, we have chosen to invest heavily to renovate infrastructure, to save or reopen the territory’s fine service lines and to offer tickets at low prices for everyone, underlines Carole Delga. Our trains are the cheapest in France and we are aiming for 100,000 passengers per day by 2030.”

To benefit from these decreasing rates, seniors living in Occitania simply have to download the Fairtiq application and create an account there, then signal, with a simple gesture on the app, the ascent and descent of the TER .
