What an evening in Munich tells us about Swiss literature – Munich

The big names have all already won the Swiss Book Prize – Lukas Bärfuss, Jonas Lüscher, Sybille Berg, Christian Kracht, Kim de L’Horizon. Their texts are so individual and unique that any comparison between them is flawed. What unites them, what brings them into the same price category, is simply the nationality of the writers. A strange starting point in 2023, especially in the literary scene, where national borders are long seen as obsolete. But why does the much-discussed Swiss Book Prize still exist? Or to put it another way: Is there even such a thing as Swiss literature? And if so, what sets them apart?
