It starts on the sofa, mostly with holding hands, less often with eye contact. It’s hard enough to look a stranger in the eye when everyone out there is just staring at their cell phone. Touching someone else’s hand despite the fact that the virus kept them apart for so long. But at some point most of them get “soft”. This is what Elisa Meyer calls it when her customers no longer sit in front of her like fence boards, when the tension subsides, in their bodies and in their heads. Then she goes to bed, to the cradle, her favorite position. She embraces the person opposite her from behind, her head resting on her chest. So she can scratch the neck, the back. “When the breath gets deeper and my eyes close, then I know that it works,” says Elisa Meyer, 35, a cuddler by profession.
