Western Europe groans under the heatwave (video)

Watch the video: From Spain to Germany: Western Europe is groaning under the heat wave

STORY: Heat, drought and their consequences. In Spain, north of Valencia, violent forest fires have been raging for days, which are being exacerbated by the high temperatures. Hundreds of firefighters have been in action since the middle of the week. They’re trying to control the fires. However, it should remain hot in the coming days – even get hotter. Temperatures of over 40 degrees have already been reached in some places on the Iberian Peninsula. The situation further north is not quite as dramatic. But also in England, Friday was heading towards the hottest day of the year. There are therefore unusually high values across the entire western European continent, moving between a low pressure area and a high from west to east across the countries. Hence the midsummer conditions in France – the meteorological summer has not even started yet. It’s only on June 21st. In Germany, too, it should be unusually hot until Sunday. So lucky is someone who can go to the swimming pool over the weekend. Many experts blame climate change for the extreme temperatures so early in the year.
