West Ham coach rages against Leverkusen – “A disgrace”

Bayer Leverkusen won against West Ham on Thursday in an intense and emotional game. According to the guests, parts of the “Werkself” went overboard.

Bayer Leverkusen has one foot in the semi-finals of the Europa League. The “Werkself” beat West Ham United from England 2-0 on Thursday and therefore have the best chance of progressing before the second leg next week.

The intense game with two late goals for Leverkusen also angered West Ham coach David Moyes because of the Bayer bench’s alleged behavior. After the game, the 60-year-old said: “The bench was a disgrace. The whole bench ran onto the pitch.”

“We have the right to do this”

Moyes specifically referred to a scene in the first half. West Ham player Lucas Paquetá severely fouled Leverkusen’s Amine Adli on the sideline. Several players then got into a scuffle. Paqueta was shown a yellow card and is suspended for the second leg. “I don’t think we would have behaved like that and all jumped up from the bench. They shouldn’t have reacted like that,” Moyes said.

When asked about the Scot’s statements, Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso said: “It was a foul, there was a yellow card. It was deserved. We all stood up. We have the right to do that.” The Basque also said: “Respect for David, but it was the right decision from the referee to give the yellow card. We concentrated on ourselves and didn’t pay attention to the other bench.”
