In the new season of “Bridgerton” there will be a lot of bare skin from actress Nicola Coughlan – too much for her family, the 37-year-old is sure. In order to maintain family peace, she had a special clause written into her contract.
Anyone who has seen the first two seasons of the Netflix hit “Bridgerton” knows that the series is sometimes not exactly suitable for young people. The third season, which starts on May 16th on the streaming service, is likely to be peppered with spicy scenes again. However, two people will not be able to enjoy these scenes: the parents of actress Nicola Coughlan, whose role Penelope Featherington and her relationship with Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) are the focus of the new season.
In an interview with the radio station SiriusXM Hits 1, Coughlan explained that she had a special condition built into her contract. Accordingly, she would have asked the makers for an alternative cut of the season – an adult version – which she could show to her family. “It’s literally in my contract,” Coughlan said. “People think I say this as a joke. But I just don’t want to.” The reason is her Irish Catholic upbringing. “We’re just not into that,” explains the actress.
Her mother’s first reaction proves this: “When she saw ‘Bridgerton’ for the first time, she didn’t know it would be so revealing,” explains Coughlan. “And then right after two minutes of the first episode you get to see a butt, Jonathan Bailey’s beautiful butt. She said, ‘What is that?'” But now she finds it “fantastic and really funny” and talks about “butts all the time.” .
Her own daughter apparently doesn’t want to see Coughlan’s mother in similar scenes. And there should be plenty of them in the coming season, as the actress has already revealed in the past. For Nicola Coughlan it was no problem to shoot these scenes: “They gave us a lot of freedom, we were allowed to have a lot of say,” said the 37-year-old. “And that gives you a feeling of confidence. The scenes were actually fun.”
