The DFB announced on Monday that the Austrian’s ban had been reduced from two games to one game. Since Friedl was already out against Hertha BSC (1-0) last weekend, he is now eligible to play again and will be available again for SV Werder against Schalke on Saturday.
The defender saw the red card in the 2-0 defeat against SC Freiburg due to an emergency brake. A controversial decision, since Friedl’s opponent Michael Gregoritsch had also worked hard in the duel.
The green-whites had already tried to reduce the sentence last week – at that time without success. After another objection, the DFB sports court finally agreed with them.

As a result, in case of doubt, an atypical emergency brake can be assumed, which justifies reducing the suspension to a championship game,” explained Stephan Oberholz, the chairman of the DFB sports court.
