Wellness Hotel in Greece: Spa in Sparta – Travel

A wellness resort has opened at the legendary location. With the claim that body and soul are cared for as well as it was common among the ancient Greeks.

You don’t get lost in Sparta. “In the west you will always find the peaks of Taygetos,” explains archaeologist Dimitris Vlachakos. And to the east the Parnon mountains. In between lies the fertile valley of the Evrotas, covered in legends, like every square centimeter here in the Peloponnese. Zeus is said to have turned into a swan on Mount Evrotas in order to seduce Leda, the wife of the Spartan king Tyndareos. Modern Sparta was built by the Wittelsbach King Otto I of Greece from 1834 – a bit too close to the ancient ruins, criticizes the 43-year-old Vlachakos: “It’s almost impossible to build a house in Sparta without looking at evidence of the antiquity.”
