The trial against a man who is said to have posed as a police officer and abused children began at the Munich II Regional Court on Tuesday. “It wasn’t me,” said the man at the start of the process – but otherwise did not want to comment on the allegations or his CV. The allegations are “a catastrophe” for his client, said his defense attorney. He has to “get along with it now”.
According to the public prosecutor’s office, the 52-year-old lured a twelve-year-old boy into a bush in Weilheim in Upper Bavaria in September 2021, on the pretext that he was looking for property damage for juvenile offenders, in order to search him there. He is said to have shown the boy a fake police badge and touched him intimately during the alleged search.
The alleged procedure with an eleven-year-old a few days later was very similar: According to the public prosecutor’s office, the accused stopped him with the words “stop, police” and claimed that he had to search him because some young people had previously uprooted plants from a corn field and he had to rule out that the boy belongs to this group.
The prosecution accuses the man, who is currently being held in a psychiatric ward, of arrogance and two counts of sexual abuse of children. There are also numerous cases of fraud, because in many cases the man is said not to have paid for goods – including two cars. In contrast to the allegations of abuse, which he denies, he largely acknowledged these cases through his lawyer: “He thinks it’s quite possible that it all happened like that.”
