The animal ran away on fire before it died. The man had obtained the total of 18 rats from a pet store. On the videos you can hear how he was amused by the suffering of the animals. “Whoa, dude, how awesome that is,” he shouted. At the time, he sent the videos to an acquaintance who then went to the police.
According to media reports, the presiding judge Reinhard Ströhle was appalled by the acts and the man’s lack of insight in court. “When you see how you relate to the deeds, it runs down your spine as cold as ice. There is no sign of remorse.” According to the report, the man’s defense attorney referred to the difficult childhood and difficult living conditions of the man.
The sentence in the second instance was three months longer than in the first judgment. Both the accused and the public prosecutor’s office had appealed against this. The higher regional court in Nuremberg now has to decide on the man’s renewed appeal.
