Weather: Why Munich is often covered in fog in winter – Munich

While the sun shines on the edge of the Alps, the clouds sometimes hang thickly over the state capital. Meteorologist Martin Schwienbacher explains why it often clears up behind the city limits and why the fog doesn’t persist further south.

SZ: At the moment it’s very noticeable again: Munich is covered in fog while the sun is shining in the mountains. Why is that?
