New year, new luck – will there be snow on the holidays this year? According to the German Weather Service, one region in Germany in particular can hope.

In parts of Germany, the dream of a white Christmas can actually come true, according to the forecast by the German Weather Service (DWD).

“The greatest probabilities for a white Christmas are crystallizing for Western Pomerania,” said DWD meteorologist Marcel Schmid on Tuesday in Offenbach. It is quite certain that in the south and southwest, with the exception of the high altitudes, it will remain green at Christmas. Precise statements are not yet possible.

The weather situation will change according to the forecast in the second half of the week. Before that, the sun will shine on this Wednesday, with the exception of the extreme north and northeast, unless thick fog blocks the view. Only a few loose cloud fields are on the way. The temperatures are between minus two and plus four degrees. At night it gets cold to minus nine degrees in the south.

On Thursday, according to the DWD, thick clouds are approaching from the west, it is raining, in the northeast it is snowing. It can get slippery on the streets. In the south it is slightly cloudy, in the Alps it is sunny and mostly dry. The maximum values ​​are between zero degrees on the Oder and eight degrees plus on the Upper Rhine. At night it snows especially in the northeast half and eastern Bavaria, in the northeast the initially heavy snowfall can turn into rain. There is an increased risk of black ice.

On Christmas Eve on Friday it rains in the north and northeast, it can also snow heavily. The south expects only intermittent rain. According to the DWD, the sun is most likely to come out in the morning in the Alps. In Western Pomerania it is around four degrees cold, it can be up to eleven degrees in the extreme south and southwest. Squalls blow on the mountains. At night it rains at zero to six degrees, in the north it snows at minus three degrees.
