Weather: Warmest September since measurements began in Bavaria – Bavaria

According to the German Weather Service (DWD), this year’s September was the warmest in Bavaria since measurements began. The DWD announced on Friday that the Free State was, on average, the coolest federal state in Germany at the end of the month. However, with an average temperature of 16.8 degrees, it was also significantly warmer in Bavaria than the long-term average between 1961 and 1990 (12.8 degrees).

This period is considered an international reference period to enable an assessment of longer-term climate change. Compared to that, September this year was exceptionally dry and sunny. According to the DWD, average rainfall of just 27 liters per square meter was measured. Between 1961 and 1990, the annual average was 72 liters per square meter. On average, there were over 255 hours of sunshine in Bavaria in September, 95 more than the long-term average. The Free State experienced the second sunniest September since measurements began.
