Sunny spring weather attracts people from Bavaria to Schleswig-Holstein to go outside over Easter. On Monday, the traffic jams feared by the wave of return trips initially did not materialize.

Spring-like temperatures and plenty of sun lured people nationwide into the open air over the Easter weekend. On the North Sea, the beaches of St. Peter-Ording and Westerland on Sylt were just as crowded as those of Scharbeutz and Travemünde on the Baltic Sea.

It got really crowded on the Hamburg harbor edge between Baumwall, Landungsbrücken and the Altonaer Fischmark. In the Bavarian Alps, on the other hand, there were no more day-trippers than usual on sunny days, the police said. The traffic situation on the roads and on the rails initially remained relatively calm.

The highway police in Schleswig-Holstein reported on Monday afternoon that the traffic situation was largely relaxed. In Hamburg, however, the onset of return travel was already noticeable. There was also comparatively little going on on the Bavarian roads: the ADAC spoke of “Easter peace”. In Saxony-Anhalt, the ADAC recorded an increase in travel, but no traffic jams.

According to Deutsche Bahn, train traffic on Easter Monday also ran without major problems. “Even on today’s main return day, traffic is stable and without abnormalities,” said a spokesman. “As expected, the trains are more crowded today.” The company had announced that it wanted to use special trains on high-demand connections until April 24, such as between Berlin and Munich or between North Rhine-Westphalia and Berlin.
