Weather of the week: towards a strong general deterioration

News Weather

For this week, you will not escape a strong generalized deterioration from Wednesday. If the start of the week is rather calm, a vast low pressure system will set up over the Atlantic and extend its influence to France, bringing with it its share of rain and winds from Wednesday and Thursday. In the mountains, snow will return to lower altitudes at the end of the period with the drop in temperatures.

After a calm, but fairly cloudy start to the week, a much more turbulent period is expected from Wednesday: the parade of disturbances will resume, with rain and a risk of gales. For vacationers present at the mountainthis change in weather will mark the return of heavy snowfall but with unpleasant weather conditions.

A Monday under the clouds and a few scattered drops

This Monday, despite high pressures, there are still many clouds. Indeed, the anticyclone located on the near Atlantic does not prevent maritime air from coming down from the North Sea and circulating over most of the country, with a few scattered showers from the Channel coasts to the east of France. Near the Mediterranean, the sun resists, but the mistral and the tramontane blow strongly up to 90 km/h in gusts. Temperatures remain above seasonal averages across France.

A quiet but foggy Tuesday

Tuesday will be the most beautiful day for vacationers, especially in the mountains and the south of France. In the morning, mists and fogs will be numerous in a certain coolness. In the afternoon, the weather will be dry everywhere under variable skies north of the Loire, and simply cloudy in the south. The wind will continue to blow quite strongly near the Mediterranean.

Wednesday, strong deterioration in the northwest

Over a large southern and eastern half of the country, the weather promises to be calm and almost spring-like for the last day. The morning fogs will give way to the veiled sun. Going back towards the Channel coast, the weather will quickly deteriorate with sustained rain accompanied by stronger winds, first over Brittany, the Pays de la Loire, then between Normandy and Hauts-de-France. France in the afternoon. Between the two, cloudy to very cloudy skies will prevail. In the morning, light frosts are expected in the south after a clear night, then it will be mild in the afternoon.

Rain, wind, snow in the mountains: a very hectic weekend

THURSDAY And next Fridaythe weather will change radically with the return of the Atlantic disturbances which will sweep the entire country.

So, THURSDAY, the rainy front arriving on Wednesday via the Channel will sweep France from north to south, up to the Mediterranean regions (except Roussillon). This strong disturbance will be accompanied by stronger winds and abundant rainfall. In this configuration, a special rain/wind release seems likely.

Friday, the disturbance will reach the extreme south-east (Côte d’Azur and Corsica) where stormy rains are expected. This episode will quickly be followed by a gale from the west. It will often rain from the Pyrenees to the Alps to Alsace. In the north and west of the country, particularly on the Atlantic arc, sustained showers will punctuate a very unstable day. Temperatures will begin to drop, reaching seasonal averages, and allowing snow to fall on our massifs from 1000 m altitude, particularly in the west of the Pyrenees and in the Alps, replenishing the snow cover which disappeared under 1500 mr.

Note that during this entire episode of disrupted weather, the rains will quickly sweep across the Mediterranean without really sticking, still sparing Roussillon due to the omnipresent tramontana.
