In the middle of winter, there is currently no winter weather in sight. It remains mild, with some storms at the start of the week. Weatherproof costumes could be very popular on Women’s Thursday.

“The beginning of February is a time of year when winter tends to reach its peak. However, there is no sign of that this year,” explained Felix Dietzsch from the DWD on Monday in Offenbach. “A strong westerly weather pattern dominates the event and ensures fairly mild temperatures – and a lot of wind.”

“Autumn feeling” in the northeast

In the northeast there will be an “autumn feeling” in the coming days – with long-lasting rain and a comparatively cool maximum temperature of 5 to 10 degrees, said Dietzsch. According to the forecast, there will be a lot of sunshine and early spring temperatures, especially in the direction of the Alps.

According to the DWD, it is often sunny and dry south of the Danube on Tuesday. In the rest of the country the sky is rather cloudy and increasingly rainy, especially in the north. It remains very mild at 8 to 15 degrees. With the exception of the south, the wind can blow strongly – even as a storm on the North Sea and in the higher mountains.

The rain is coming on Wednesday

According to the DWD, there will be a lot of rain in central Germany on Wednesday, only south of the Danube it will remain dry. Some snow is also possible in high altitudes. The maximum temperatures are only 4 to 9 degrees in the north and central, and 9 to 16 degrees in the south and southwest. Heavy squalls are possible again in the mountains.

During the Women’s Carnival on Thursday, the precipitation will spread northeastwards, as the DWD forecast. There may be some snow in the north. In the south and southwest the rain will ease over the course of the day. According to meteorologists, the maximum daily temperatures are 1 to 5 degrees in the north and northeast, and 5 to 10 degrees in the middle. In the southwest and south it remains a mild 10 to 15 degrees.
