Weather in Munich: the city warns against swimming in the Isar despite the heat – is there a storm? – Munich

Munich and Bavaria are facing tropical days with up to 38 degrees Celsius – but people should rather avoid a refreshing dip in the Isar. The city and district of Munich continue to warn against swimming or boating in the river. After the storm on Wednesday night, damage such as fallen trees has still not been completely eliminated, the Department for Climate and Environmental Protection announced. There is a “considerable risk” of getting stuck on trees and capsizing or falling under and drowning.

Due to the large number of damages, it cannot be guaranteed that they will be repaired before the weekend, said a spokeswoman. Therefore, the warning for swimmers and boaters remains. However, signs would not be posted. The district of Munich had already pointed out the danger of flotsam after the storm, which could form obstacles that are hardly or not at all recognizable even under water. Trees had also fallen on the Isar cycle path north of the city, which could not be completely removed by the weekend.

Above all, the sunny and hot Saturday should attract thousands to the shore. A spokesman for the German Weather Service (DWD) explained that subtropical sea air from Spain and North Africa was responsible for the heat. It’s supposed to be even hotter in Middle Franconia than in Munich and Upper Bavaria. Heavy thunderstorms, hurricane-force gusts, heavy rain and sometimes hail are to be expected in the west of the Free State.

Tropical nights are possible in the night from Saturday to Sunday. This means that temperatures do not drop below 20 degrees. On Sunday it cools down, the temperatures are between 25 and 29 degrees. Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible in the night from Sunday to Monday in southern Bavaria.
