Weather in Bavaria: snow and ice in the south, floods in the north – Bavaria

A low over Denmark causes bad weather and light floods in Bavaria. The German Weather Service (DWD) warned on Wednesday morning of gusts of wind up to 60 kilometers per hour. In the mountains there could even be heavy gusts of wind up to 95 kilometers per hour. It also snowed in the morning. It was said that there could be slippery spots in the mountains and in the western foothills of the Alps until the morning. Several rivers in the north and east of Bavaria burst their banks.

On Wednesday morning, according to the flood news service, the second highest flood reporting level 3 was valid for the Itz at the Schenkenau level, for the Steinach in the Neustadt district of Fürth am Berg and the Main in Mainleus already again. In addition, according to the current forecast, level 3 could also be achieved on the Aisch near Laufermühle by Thursday.

There are a total of four reporting levels for flood warnings. Reporting level 3 means that individual built-up plots or cellars are flooded, cross-town traffic connections are blocked and isolated operations of the water or dam weir are necessary.

The weather will keep Bavaria busy. According to the DWD, a few centimeters of snow can be expected in the Bavarian Forest above 1000 meters and in the Alps above 800 meters. In congestion in the Berchtesgaden, Chiemgau and Allgäu Alps, up to 25 centimeters are possible.
