The people of Bavaria can probably look forward to a reddish morning sky on Thursday morning. Sahara dust is said to color the sky yellowish-red in many areas, as a meteorologist from the German Weather Service (DWD) said on Wednesday.
However, the highest concentration of dust particles in Bavaria will occur on Thursday night and thus in the dark, so that this time the weather phenomenon is likely to be a little less spectacular.
The Sahara dust is followed by a temperature drop towards the weekend, which is triggered by a low pressure area. Cold air masses have been pushing their way to southern Germany since Friday. It should only get up to three degrees warm during the day, at night the temperatures drop locally to below zero degrees again.
According to the previous weather model, the DWD expects a lot of snow in Upper Bavaria and in the Alpine valleys. “Up to 20 centimeters of fresh snow are sometimes possible from today’s perspective, which also remains,” said the meteorologist. Even lower altitudes are affected.
