Weather in Bavaria: Meteorologists expect snow – Bavaria

It’s getting colder in Bavaria – and winter sports enthusiasts can finally look forward to snow next week. “By Wednesday, there could be 5 to 10 centimeters of fresh snow in the foothills of the Alps, maybe even 15 centimeters in places,” said a meteorologist from the German Weather Service (DWD) on Friday. In the mountains, a total of 20 to 30 centimeters can be expected, in the Allgäu even up to 30 centimeters. It can also get frosty throughout the Free State at night.

“We currently have very mild sea air, but this is followed by a cold front from the west,” said the expert. Although this is hardly noticeable in the lowlands, it ensures that the snowfall limit in the Alps will drop to up to 800 meters. Even if a few flakes fall there – “it actually has nothing to do with winter”.

For Saturday, the experts in Bavaria expect widespread rain at around ten degrees. The water level in many rivers in northern Bavaria is already high. The flood news service of the State Office for the Environment reported reporting level 2 on Friday, especially in Itz, Rodach and Franconian Saale, and announced that flooded areas and isolated traffic obstructions could also be expected on other streams and rivers by the weekend.

According to the DWD forecast, it will remain dry on the edge of the Alps and in the mountains. In the course of Sunday, another cold front will lower the snow line across Bavaria to around 600 meters, and it will be colder. By the evening, the rain in the Alps will increasingly turn into snow, so that a thin layer of snow is likely to form in the foothills. “In the mountains, 5 to 10 centimeters of fresh snow can be expected, in the Allgäu maybe even 15 centimeters,” explained the meteorologist. “It will then continue to change next week.”

And it’s getting even colder, added the expert. The snow line will drop to up to 300 meters on Monday, with maximum values of 2 to 6 degrees, there could also be snow showers here and there in the lowlands. The middle of the week could then bring winter sports enthusiasts the hoped-for white splendor: “Especially on Tuesday to Wednesday there is currently a chance that it will sometimes snow more heavily and for a long time in the Alps, so that we will have 5 to 10, in places maybe even 15 to 20 centimeters expected,” said the DWD expert. There is frost throughout Bavaria at night, with a clear sky temperatures below minus 10 degrees are also possible.
