For the coming days, the weather experts are predicting summer weather of almost 30 degrees. But in the first week of May the temperatures plummet again.

Frankfurt – After spring had briefly arrived, there is currently cool weather in Germany. In many places, the temperatures even fell below zero at night – the result was destroyed flowers due to ground frost. Snow also fell in some parts of Germany. Now the next weather extreme is approaching. Graduate meteorologist Dominik Jung has a clear forecast for the coming days.

“Almost bathing weather” – the weather in the last days of April is expected to be summery again

“It feels like we are rushing from late winter straight into summer,” says the meteorologist from wetter.net firmly. Towards the end of the week there should be a “big jump in temperature”, especially in the east of the country: temperatures of up to 29 degrees are possible – “almost bathing weather”, says Jung. It is expected to be warmest in the regions of Brandenburg, Berlin and Saxony.

Thursday (April 25)7 to 11 degrees, still lots of clouds and showers, windy
Friday (April 26)10 to 16 degrees, a little less showers, slowly getting warmer
Saturday (April 27)15 to 23 degrees, even warmer and sometimes friendly
Sunday (April 28)18 to 25 degrees, summery in the east, warmer in the west too, but further showers possible
Monday (April 29)18 to 26 degrees, isolated showers and thunderstorms to the west
Tuesday (April 30)20 to 29 degrees, warm in summer, thunderstorms possible in the west
Wednesday (May 1st)19 to 27 degrees, new thunderstorms in the west, partly with heavy rain and hail
Thursday (May 2nd)18 to 24 degrees, isolated showers and thunderstorms, sunny in the east

Sahara dust will also play a role in the weather in the coming days. It ensures “gorgeous sunsets”, especially in the east, explains Jung on YouTube. But blood rain is also possible from the Sahara dust. The reddish Saharan dust is washed out by precipitation.

Severe storms and hail determine the weather, especially in eastern Germany

Although it is getting warmer overall in Germany, Jung warns of changeable weather: “The April weather will continue in May.” It remains comparatively cooler, especially in western Germany. The German Weather Service (DWD) forecasts “heavy clouds and isolated showers”. However, severe storms with heavy rain and hail are also possible. Recently, Dubai was also hit by violent storms.

After the temperatures rose rapidly in the last week of April and the first days of May, it should also cool down again in the east. “The May forecast is crashing,” says Jung, describing the change in the weather. After about four days of summer, temperatures would drop again to an average of 20 degrees around May 3rd. There is a risk of isolated rain showers and strong thunderstorms. The DWD weather forecasts also predict “slowly decreasing temperatures” with showers and thunderstorms for the first week of May.

Overall, the weather in April has not been significantly warmer or colder than in previous years

Despite the cold weather of the past few days, the average April weather is currently 9.9 degrees, according to Jung. The average from 1991 to 2020 is 9.0 degrees – so the temperatures this year were not noticeably higher and lower than in previous years. The record for the month of April is an average of 12.3 degrees. This April will probably no longer reach this value. (tt)
