The German Weather Service continues to warn of slippery conditions. Things could be “pretty smooth,” especially in the south. However, there were hardly any weather-related accidents during the night.

In most parts of Germany it will remain frosty at the end of this week. Slippery roads must always be expected.

“Freezing wet conditions are still widespread “It’s an issue in Germany,” said a meteorologist from the German Weather Service (DWD) on Friday morning. The DWD issued an official slippery warning for much of Germany, which is still in effect until 12 p.m. today. It could be “pretty slippery” especially in the very south. There is a warning of freezing rain for parts of Bavaria.

No serious accidents

At night it was mostly quiet on the Bavarian streets. “It’s slippery, but we don’t have any accidents,” said a police spokesman in Upper Palatinate. In Upper Bavaria there have so far been only “relatively few accidents involving snow and ice,” according to the Upper Bavaria South Police Headquarters. Even in the north of Upper Bavaria there are comparatively few accidents due to the weather conditions, said a police spokesman.

In Thuringia, the situation center reported a few trucks that had broken down due to the weather, but otherwise it was quiet. “There are wintry road conditions, but no chaos,” said a spokesman for the situation center in Saxony. “The main streets and motorways have all been cleared, we have a few metal accidents on the side roads, but nothing out of the ordinary,” said the situation center in Brandenburg. There were no reports of weather-related accidents in the north and west of Germany.

It stays freezing cold

The DWD hardly expects any further snow for these parts of the country today. But it stays cold. “In the north and northeast we can expect permanent frost and highs between minus three and minus four degrees,” said the meteorologist. In some places in the south there is a little warmer air and maximum temperatures of plus two degrees. “We can expect snowfall in Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria during the day. At the very edge of the Alps, the precipitation can also fall as rain.”

At the weekend it will be frosty almost all over Germany. “Permanent frost is becoming an issue over a large area. It is only frost-free during the day on the coasts, along the Upper Rhine and in southern parts of Bavaria,” said the meteorologist. There is only occasional snow.
