Weakened by the winds, the yellow crane will undergo a “complete diagnosis”

On October 29, a piece of metal and paint fell from the yellow Titan crane, this port machine dominating the west of the island of Nantes. A passerby was slightly injured by the shrapnel. In the following days, the passage of storms Ciaran and Domingos further deteriorated the crane. This is why a security perimeter was established around the structure. It will remain in place until November 20, announces the city of Nantes.

An initial check by professionals revealed that several parts were damaged on the surface, in particular the old cockpit. A net and a rubble guard have been installed. But the town hall does not intend to be satisfied with this. She therefore decided to carry out a “complete diagnosis” of the work with the help of a specialized project manager, she said.

Used by Dubigeon shipyards from 1954 to 1987, the yellow Titan crane measured 43 m high and weighed a whopping 400 tonnes. It has been classified as a historic monument since 2005. Three of the five French cranes protected as Historic Monuments are also located in Nantes.
