“We will not decarbonize the planet by rationing French air transport,” says Arnaud Montebourg

Two questions from readers of 20 minutes and a similar beginning of response. Like Ségolène Royal, Arnaud Montebourg says he is “opposed to any form of punitive ecology”. This Thursday, he was the guest of “Face aux Territoires” on TV5 Monde, a program whose 20 minutes is a partner. And he answered the question of one of our readers, Julie, asking her what the former Minister of the Economy thinks of Jean-Marc Jancovi’s declaration to limit the number of plane flights to four in a life.

“I am opposed to any form of punitive ecology, begins Arnaud Montebourg. So, the barbecues which would be symbols of virility, the tour de France which is too carbonic, the Christmas trees which must be stopped, the foie gras which must be eliminated, the children’s dream of airplanes which must be prohibited , flights that must be rationed. We will not be able to decarbonize the planet by attacking individuals in this way. But by building a consensus, or in any case a political compromise on the scarcity of resources, on the one hand, the questions of biodiversity, so that is the balance which is very difficult in agriculture and environment, and on the other hand, on the way in which we are going to change uses. »

The former minister under François Hollande continues: “You can see that rationing air transport for the French, when all of the air transport for the French corresponds to a coal-fired power plant in Germany, a (he insists)… You can see that there is a disproportion between the efforts that French people are asked to make, and I was going to say the kindness that we show excessively towards our German friends and partners. »
