we tested the new features

You may already know Gemini, Google’s AI chatbot. Imagine that the Mountain View firm has just added two rather useful features for the French.

You may not have known it, but Gemini, Google’s AI chatbot, now has extensions. And the new thing is that the functionality is now available in France.

For the moment, only those provided by Google are available, such as Google Flight, Gmail, Google Docs or even YouTube. The idea is to be able to make queries using these extensions.

For example, if you are looking for a route between Nantes and Rennes, Gemini will give you the information with a link to Google Maps and a map. Another example: if you search for a video on YouTube, Gemini will find it for you.

On Google Flights, Gemini returned us offers that were no longer available, but the other extensions worked perfectly. The question to ask is whether we are saving time compared to traditional research… we will have to make a few attempts to estimate the interest. What is certain is that we can imagine how Google will improve its search engine by integrating such advanced and rich results.

Note that to use certain extensions, such as those linked to Google Workspace, you will need to give access rights to Gemini so that it can access your emails, personal documents, etc.

Rest assured, this remains confidential on your account, and you can deactivate these extensions at any time in your privacy settings.

However, we regret the absence of third-party extensions at the moment. But we can bet that Google will quickly take inspiration from OpenAI and its app store for ChatGPT, by offering a Play Store dedicated to Gemini.

Gemini, accessible from Chrome

The other pretty cool new thing about Gemini is that it’s now easier to access it from Chrome. All you have to do is type “@gemini” followed by your query in the Chrome address bar, and gemini.google.com launches with a ready-to-use response to the query.

Note, however, that the Gemini app is still not available in France, and that you must therefore go through the gemini.google.com web interface to use it.
